05:01 pm - My 2nd big project
When I started quilting I told all my kids that I would hand piece and hand quilt a king size quilt for each of them. I have 3 kids and have completed one. This is the second one. This is just the top, I finished it this afternoon, it has taken me 3 years to get this much done. I still need to quilt it but will probably wait until fall since the batting is wool from a local farm that raises sheep. Plan to pin baste it tomorrow in case I get inspired to work on it sooner.

Finished top for Jen

Whenever I travelled I took pieces of it with me. Until very recently the pieces fit nicely into sandwich bags. I also worked on it while watching TV in the evenings.

I would work on it until my fingers got sore then take a break (I have never been able to use a thimble.) or sometimes I would just get bored working on it. That is why it took so long to get this far. During the breaks I worked on projects that I could finish fairly quickly with my sewing machine.

I'm not sure your fingers *should* get sore with piecing, is there a chance it's a technique fault? With quilting, the method I use involves a thimble on the over hand (as per usual) and an Aunt Becky on the under hand (less usual but bloody fantastic), so I no longer get sore fingers from that either. Unless you meant sore muscles?
